all lives are full of wonder

two fabulous things over the past 2 days (today not included):

on rainy wednesday, kristin & i prepare to begin our run through the mountain view cemetery. a stately black gentleman coming from the chapel of the chimes stops us and says we must be dedicated runners to go in this weather. we giggle and nod, even though, at this point, it's not even raining. i notice his fine cowboy hat is delicately wrapped in plastic. i tell him i like his rain protection device and he tips his hat and says "texas umbrella".

on mail run thursday, kristin & i get in the left turn lane at a light. in the lane next to us, a tiny dog hangs all the way out of the driver's window, kept in just by the grip of the driver's hand on his purple doggy sweater. we turn and the dog turns too, gleefully enjoying the wind in his face, while the driver stares straight ahead, grumpy as ever.

[i tried to draw both these incidents, but was not successful. words will have to suffice.]

new oven is rather fine

i made cookies to test
because the cookies are the same
[as always]
only the oven is different

i made dishes dirty
because cookies need to be made in dishes
[as always]
they have nothing to do with the oven

i haven't cleaned up the dishes
because this is not my sink
[as always]
only the gloves are the same, in color

none of this makes sense
[as always]

in my stove's last days, let me make it white & sparkly

gone today, new tomorrow.

last night kind of sucked

in that everything that could be crappy, decided to be crappy.
but then i uploaded my pictures from my camera
and remembered how beautiful the light & clouds were at work:



then i watched this and sipped this, and ate these & everything was better.

and now, a lazy, overcast day at work. the weekend is near, art murmur on the horizon, and no home internet til the end of next week--which could actually be quite refreshing.

at my last trip to my favorite thrift town i found the best treasure: an old, working enlarger timer. it made me yearn for my darkroom days & think again about making my own. and, for only 99 cents, i have at least the beginning of it. (although for now it's just serving as active decor in my living room).
